It’s December! All things warm, cozy, and Christmas-y come to mind when December rolls around for us, and this year is no exception. I have to say, I find great joy in wrapping Em up in layers of winter gear, and watching him explore one of my favourite seasons… snow and all!
So, needless to say, when we discovered Ponchies for Kids, our winter excitement hit an all time high! Because what’s more adorable than a toddler in cozy winter gear?! A toddler dressed as a raccoon in cozy winter gear, that’s what! Read on, my friends.
AFFORDABILITY:
Each handmade (in Toronto!) Ponchie, sells for anywhere from $65 – $95 depending on the complexity of the design. I did some comparison shopping (as we do), and found that similar, but less detailed ponchos are on the market for $75-$100, and big box stores retail fall and winter toddler jackets between $50-$100, all of which makes the Ponchies price point seem very reasonable.

Those of you who’ve been following along for a while, know that I have a bit of a love/hate thing going on with our urban raccoon friends. So, needless, to say, when our friends at Ponchies said they could make Emmett a Raccoon Ponchie (complete with adorable tail) we said heck yes! Because as pesky as they are, those little bandits are darn cute!
The Ponchie itself is not only ridiculously adorable, but it has some great key features:
- It’s made of high quality (cozy!) fleece that’s sourced locally
- It has snaps under the arms to create ‘sleeves’ and keep the Ponchie in place while Em’s racing around, doing serious raccoon business
- There are drawstrings on each arm to cinch up/let down the material as your kiddo grows (can we get a serious cheer for a clothing item that your kiddo can wear for more than one year?!)
- It has a button at the collar to help keep the hood up and the Ponchie from sliding off
- It’s soooooooo adorable, and the detail of the Ponchies designs are pretty darn amazing (check them all out HERE – you’ll find one, or ten, that you love)
But our favourite, favourite, favourite, favourite feature of the Ponchie is its usefulness in the car seat. Canadian winters are cold, and we all know that we can’t be putting our babes in their car seat in their snowsuit (danger!). But that said, sometimes letting the car warm up for 20 mins before you get in isn’t feasible, and you can’t very well let your little one freeze in their seat… enter the Ponchie! Just unsnap the sides and lift the Ponchie up to buckle your little one into the seat, and then drape the Ponchie back down over them to keep them snug and warm while you drive! Ta-daaa!
CREATIVITY:
Creativity is what Ponchies are all about. They have the most unique and adorable designs (hellooooo raccoon friend), and beyond that they’ll even work with you to customize a Ponchies design if there’s something specific you’re looking for (super hero? unicorn?). You get great functionality, great design, and it’s all handmade in Canada. Pretty darn awesome.
