Our master bedroom was that one room in our house that got left behind.
We moved into our house a few years ago, and were focused on designing the spaces in our home that we’d use most (the kitchen, living room, etc). And almost as an afterthought, we quickly picked a paint colour for our master bedroom… because, the painters were already going to be there. You know, the way all fabulous design decisions are made… *face palm*
The colour was fine, just never exactly what I wanted. And we had a fabulous bed that we got as a wedding present, that always felt out of place in our hodge-podge room.
If you caught our Spring Home Tour, you got a sneak peek at the space. But, take a look at the before pics, so you can get a feel for exactly where we started:
We knew we wanted to build a design around the bed (that we love), and this light fixture that I fell in love with at the Home Depot. We also wanted the space to feel cozy, relaxing and a little bit sophisticated (you know, to contrast the Paw Patrol toy in our bathroom).
We decided to leave the majority of the space white to keep it light and fresh (we used Behr paint in Polar Bear), and then added some depth to the wall behind our headboard with a deep, dark, almost-black, shade of blue ( Behr Ink Black). Our headboard is large, and the warm wood tones made sure that the deep blue wasn’t overwhelming in the space.
We also used a few other components to break up the white-ness of the room – this geometric wallpaper in the built-in shelves was the perfect complement to our light fixture muse.
A cute little snake-plant and a fun white lamp were the perfect accents to pull the room together.
