I love being a boy mom. I love the energy my little guy has, I love his gentle and sweet personality (I swear, it’s in there!), and I love watching him grow and learn everyday. It’s basically the best ever. But I do have to admit, there’s the odd time, like when I’m searching for a fun piece of Emmett’s wardrobe, that I get a little envious of the girl mamas out there. AFFORDABILITY:
Bonnets from the Little Red Hat Co range from $25 – $40, depending on the materials involved and the intricacy of the design (the fall/winter ones are on the higher end of this bracket because they’re lined and toasty warm).
I’m going to go ahead and admit that I paid over $30 for a sun hat for Em this summer… a generic, run of the mill sun hat… so buying a handmade, stylish winter hat for $36 seems pretty darn reasonable to me. And did I mention it’s soooo adorable?!
BLUEPRINT:
The bonnets from the Little Red Hat Co are all handmade in Toronto (local, yay!) by a mother-and-two-daughters team. They source their inputs locally, and take the time and care with each piece to ensure you’re getting a treasure that you’ll have in the family for generations. Sizes range from 3 – 36 months, so all of your littles are covered!
When we saw the Grizzly bonnet (part of the brand new Fall/Winter collection) we knew we had to have it. The combination of the faux-fur lining for chilly days, the ties under the chin (to dissuade grabby baby hands) and the adorable navy gingham print on the outside makes it both practical and wickedly stylish (and easy to pair with just about every outfit). And guys, it’s just. So. Cozy.
CREATIVITY:
I love the idea that the impetus for this company was a lovingly crafted bonnet, given by grandmother to her brand new granddaughter… the receipt of that gift created such a ripple of emotion, that the idea to share that same feeling and treasure with the world was born. Oh, and certainly having three decades as a pattern maker and seamstress in the books doesn’t hurt either! This three-woman team is tackling responsible fashion, producing locally, and bringing the bonnet back with a whimsical, modern, classic style all their own.
